Biodiversity

Biodiversity, short for biological diversity, refers to the natural variety of life on earth, encompassing all species of plants and animals. It is declining throughout the world because of human activity and it affects all our lives - at home and at work.

Wildlife Trusts definition

The degradation of biodiversity is a crisis. We need nothing less than a transformation in our commitment to delivering nature conservation in England.
Assessment of progress during 2010 by 21 major conservation bodies.

Biodiversity and other ecosystems are vital to the survival of our civilisation, and we should not leave this to others, be they politicians, business leaders, teachers, or other citizens. We have to recognise that we are all responsible. Sir David King

For the church of the 21st century, good ecology is not an optional extra but a matter of justice. It is therefore central to what it means to be a Christian.
Dr Rowan Williams
